Ezra Stiles Gannett papers, 1816-1918.

Personal correspondence and religious writings of Ezra Stiles Gannett, assistant and later pastor of the Federal (later Arlington) Street Church (1824-1871), and a leader in the Unitarian movement. Included are sixty-six volumes of diaries that cover Gannett's daily activities from 1821 to 1871. Correspondents include: William Ellery Channing, James Freeman Clarke, John Cordner, Calvin Lincoln, Samuel Joseph May and Henry Ware, Jr.

James Freeman Clarke (April 4, 1810 – June 8, 1888) was an American theologian and author. Born in Hanover, New Hampshire, on April 4, 1810, James Freeman Clarke was the son of Samuel Clarke and Rebecca Parker Hull, though he was raised by his grandfather James Freeman, minister at King's Chapel in Boston, Massachusetts. William Ellery Channing (1780-1842) graduated from Harvard College in 1798. He served on the board of the Harvard Corporation from 1813 to 1826, where he worked for the establishment of the Divinity School, which occurred in 1816.
